Scientific definition of WATT

The Watt (abbreviated W) is that International system of units (SI) standard unit of power (energy per unit time), the equivalent of one joule power second. The Watt is used to specify the rate at which electrical energy is dissipated, or the rate at which electromagnetic energy is radiated, Absorbed, or dissipated”

Easy Definition of WATT

One common fan consume 75W of power”

One Common tube light consume 40 or 36 W of power”

What is relation between One Watt (W), One Kilowatt (1kW) & One Megawatt (1MW) ?

One Kilowatt is equal to One Thousand Watt.

1kW = 1,000W

& One Megawatt is equal to One Thousand Kilowatt

1MW = 1000kW.

Now you can easily relate W, kW & MW

1W = 0.001 kW = 0.000001 MW

1kW = 1,000W = 0.001MW

1MW = 1,000kW = 1,000,000W

What are the rating of solar panels ? And how many solar panels required for 50kW of solar power plant?

Solar panels are come in rating from 30W to 425W

But to design a solar power plant of rating above 500W, solar panels of ratings 250W , 315W, 322.5W, 325W and above are used.

So to design a solar power plant of size 50kW, following method is used.

Size of solar power plant = number of solar panels x rating of solar panels.

i.e. 4 numbers of 250W solar panels (4x250W) = (1000W) 1kW of solar power plant

Hence

50kW = 50,000W, hence 50,000W/250W = 200 nos of 250W solar panels

But with solar power plant of rating 3kW & above, 250W is not a suitable rating of solar panel because it's price per watt is higher than that of above rating solar panels and it isn't easily available in bulk quantity.

Also solar power plants design with solar panels of rating 315W and above consume less space as compared to 250W of solar panel.”

therefore

50kW = 50,000W, hence 50,000W/315W = 159 (Approx) nos of 315W solar panels.

50kW = 50,000W, hence 50,000W/322.5W = 155 (Approx) nos of 322.5W solar panels.

50kW = 50,000W, hence 50,000W/325W = 154 (Approx) nos of 325W solar panels.

How to calculate the size of solar power plants?

The size of solar power plant is depend upon the type of solar power plant is required.”

There are three type of solar power plants

1. ON-GRID Solar power plant

2. OFF-GRID Solar power plant

3. & Hybrid Solar power plant

In case of ON-GRID solar power plant the size of plant is depends upon the average power consumption.

Whereas, in case of OFF-GRID Solar power plant the size of plant is depends upon the number of batteries needed to be charge from solar panels.

And in case of Hybrid Solar power plant the size of plant is depends upon the both the battery size and average power consumption.
